Which is better, cellulose or fiberglass insulation?

Fiberglass batts are the more common of the two types of attic insulations, as they are easier to install. Cellulose insulation provides a better R-value, and if packed tightly is better at reducing airflow from gaps in your ceiling and sheetrock work.

While fiberglass has a slightly lower R-value, it does provide a benefit of helping reduce dust in your home as compared to cellulose.

For do-it-yourself installation, fiberglass batts require less equipment. For do-it-your-selfers, this is often the preferred choice. But for maximum energy savings, cellulose or blown fiberglass insulation proves the best result.
